I first became familiar with Darby Stanchfield through the CBS post-apocalyptic drama “Jericho” where she played the character of “April Green”. The greatest compliment I can pay to Ms. Stanchfield is to say I remember her character and not her acting.
Darby Stanchfield was born and raised in Alaska, and received her post-secondary education in Tacoma Washington at the University of Puget Sound, where she earned two degrees, Communications and Theatre. She later went on to graduate from the American Conservatory Theater in San Francisco. The Conservatory is ranked as one of the top 5 acting schools in the world alongside such notable institutions as Juilliard, Yale, and NYU; it only accepts 8 new students per year, and its alumni includes award-winning actors such as Denzel Washington, Marsha Mason, Annette Benning, Amy Irving and Elizabeth Banks.
Most recently Ms. Stanchfield has gained much notoriety for her role as White House Press Secretary Abby Whelan on the long running ABC drama Scandal. In addition to playing such a large role on the ensemble cast, she also directed 2 episodes of the television series in addition to directing 6 webisodes linked to the show called “Gladiator Wanted”.
Her filmography is primarily composed of independent art films, one for which “The Sacrifice” earned her a “Best Supporting Actress” win at the Monaco International film festival.
Darby Stanchfield is an impressive dramatic actress whose gravity and talent will be appreciated both on and behind the lens.
